About

Hello, my name is Sarah and I’m a librarian and family historian. I combine traditional research with genetic genealogy, and love to hear stories, see photos, and learn more than the vital facts. I’ve been researching my family history for almost thirty years.

I have tertiary qualifications in library and information studies, and in family history, and I’ve worked in libraries in a variety of roles for many years.

This site is a place to pull together some of the information I’ve learned about my ancestors. If you’re interested in my stories, or are related to me or my extended family, I’d love you to get in touch.

Family history research is like being a detective and time traveller combined. I enjoy following clues to track down elusive ancestors and stories from their lives. When I started researching my family history, the main information sources were in paper, microfiche and microfilm format, and it took significant time and effort to use them. Now there are digitised records and it’s possible to search all over the world without leaving home. Things have changed a lot!

A note about references

Recording information sources is essential to provide evidence of research. I aim to provide selected references when I share information on this site. They’ll include sources like newspapers, convict records, and websites. I won’t include all my sources on the site and references I often won’t provide include those for information related to sources such as vital records (births, deaths and marriages). If you’d like to know about my sources, please ask.
